Living Legacies: Art of the African American South surveys both contemporary and historical works by Black artists across the South, placing traditional textiles next to abstract sculptural work. In response to this, a modern, dynamic, “stretchy” typographic system based on type samples from W.E.B. Du Bois’ classic infographics was devised, wending its way through the exhibition and collateral and reflecting the multiplicity of voices coming together into the unified fabric of the show.
