A hazy, dreamy, woozy, phosphorescent, retro-futuristic, faintly haunted atmosphere has settled over the Scalability Project. A glow follows you around. Floating pulses of color drift between works and ideas. The typography looks as if it remembers a very elegant future that never quite happened.

Somewhere in this soft-edged, slow-pulsing place are 12 web and multimedia artworks and texts by artists and scholars. You can read, watch, follow a connection, lose your bearings for a moment. The letters are sharply drawn; the atmosphere around them is having trouble staying solid. It is possible to know what you’re looking at and still feel slightly unsure where you are. There is no great hurry to resolve this.

The introductory statement calls the website a “container,” after Ursula K. Le Guin: a way of gathering stories that “brings energy home.” The browser supplies a rectangle, which is helpful. It is harder to say where one story stops holding another, or whether the atmosphere is something the container holds or something leaking into it.
